The 2017 Grand Marshal of the Rainier Days in the Park Parade is 81 year Rainier resident Joe Oliva.  Joe and his wife Joyce currently own Rainier True value.  The Rainier hardware business has been in the family since the 1920s with various names from Marshal Wells Hardware, changing to Coast to Coast in 1958 and then changing to True Value in about 1989.  Joe is a 1953 graduate from Rainier High School and worked at Longview Fibre for 20 years before devoting his work to the hardware business full time in 1975.  Joe purchased the business from his Dad and Uncle.  Joe built his house on the East side of Rainier in 1962.  Joe and Joyce have three children Cindy, Rodney and John.  Joe’s memory of Rainier Days in the Park dates to the Strawberry Festival in which he said everyone had a good time.  Joe says he loves Rainier and has always enjoyed his work in the Hardware store where he has really gotten to know a lot of people in Rainier. If you couldn't find Joe at the hardware store you could find him on the golf course with his buddies.  Joe and his family appreciates the support the customers have given the store through out the years.
